DESCRIPTION:La Boheme\nFriday\, May 15th\, 2026 7:00pm * First Presbyterian Church\, downtown Kalamazoo\nIt’s just a whisp of a story\, really — a chance meeting and a blossoming love\, a few meals shared with friends\, the enduring tribulations of poverty — but in Puccini’s masterful hands\, every moment feels so much larger than life\, saturated with pathos and beauty.  This is why this tale of love found and lost among young starving artists in 19th-Century Paris endures as one of the most beloved operas of all time\, restaged and retold again and again. The Philharmonia is thrilled to once again collaborate with the extraordinary singers of the West Michigan Opera Project to present a semi-staged version of this dramatic work in both Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids\, and we are equally excited to welcome the Kalamazoo Children’s Chorus to our stage for the first time. \nTickets for our Kalamazoo performances are available at\nthe door\, and cost $7 for general admission\, $3 for students\,\nand are free for K students with ID

SUMMARY:Bach Around the Block 2026 on June 8 at 7pm
DESCRIPTION:The American Guild of Organists – Southwest Michigan Chapter is excited to host our annual Bach Around the Block “organ crawl” concert on Monday\, June 8 at 7pm in Kalamazoo. We will begin at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church\, continue to First United Methodist\, and conclude at First Congregational with a light reception. The concert is free\, and features local talent\, all members of the guild chapter.\n\nOur theme this year is “Following the Footsteps of Bach.” Pieces will be played in chronological order\, tracing Johann Sebastian’s career moves from town to town\, church to church\, organ to organ. Also featured is a newly discovered Chaconne in G minor\, BWV 1179\, from early in his career.
